Grouping is a nice tool to use when learning how to factor

factor one term

now use the (1+2b) term as a factor for the other side
basically, what times (1+2b) gives (-3-6b)

notice how two of the terms are the same
since they are being multiplied you can factor them out
which results in the following

the key is to group the like items together and
work with smaller terms than in the initial problem

i hope this helps
