that middle branch is pointless, so 12+4=16, 16x6/(16+60) = 24/19, 24/19 + 12 = Req

Wait, im sorry, thats really wrong. the ckt can be redrawn and this:
12*12/(12+12)=6Ω, 6+6=12Ω, 12*4/(12+4)=3Ω,,,, Req=3Ω.
