figuring Range

Course Textbook Chapter Problem
Other N/A N/A N/A
Question Details:
In figuring range I thought you put the numbers in acending order and the you subtract the highest number by the lowest number and that becomes you range. my numbers are:
-25,-20,-13,-2,9,15,17,14,7,-4,-16,-23
Accending order is -25,-23,-20,-16,-13,-4,-2,7,9,14,15,17
so you highest number is 17 and your lowest number is -25 so would you do the mathe like this
17-(-25)=-8 is the range but I thought when subtract a positive from a negative you use the sign of the larger number and subtract which would be (-25) - 7= (-25)+(-7) = -32 which would not be the range because the numbers do not accend to 32 Please let me know if I did it right with the range at -8.

For the range you subtract the least number from the greatest. 17 - (-25) = 42
Whenever you subtract a negative number, you end up adding the positive of that number. Just remember: two negatives make a positive.
